A signed consent form is required from the parent or legal guardian and they must also attend the course at all times. No child will be allowed to ride without written parental consent and without the parent or legal guardian present. An educational booklet designed specifically for parents who allow their child to ride an all-terrain vehicle is available from the Canada Safety Council. The federal government regulations require recreational boaters to obtain a pleasure craft operator card which demonstrates that they have the basic knowledge to operate a motorized pleasure craft safely. The regulations require operators of motor boats to carry proof of competency.

In 1876, Governor Alexander Morris, appointed by federal Order-in-Council, was empowered as a Treaty Commissioner to negotiate a treaty with First Nations living within the limits of what would become Treaty Six.
