In the 1920's several immigrant Ukrainian families of the Greco-Catholic Faith (Orthodox Christians in communion with Rome) settled in the east end of Toronto and began to slowly coalesce into a small community. In 1927, a Heritage School was established for their children. They met socially and congregated for worship at various locations, depending on the availability of a priest. In 1937, with the purchase of a church building on King Street, a small but definite community of eight Ukrainian Greco-Catholic faithful was established, under the name Sacred Heart Parish. Beginning with the feast of Holy Pascha, the faithful gathered every Sunday at the new site to celebrate the Most Holy Eucharist. The parish received canonical approval in 1938 by Most Rev. Kyr Ladyka, Bishop of Winnipeg. In 1948, the parish became part of the newly formed Eparchy of Toronto, under the pastoral care of the Bishop of Toronto and Eastern Canada, Kyr Isidore Borecky. East End Children's Centre is a group of free drop-in programs where parents, grandparents, guardians and caregivers can spend time with infant, toddler and preschool children. Our toy filled centres offer a free snack, circle time and a daily craft. No registration is required to participate. All East End Children's Centre programs are nut free and baby feeding friendly. Our Kimbourne and Terry Fox sites are wheelchair accessible. We welcome all children aged 0 – 6 and their families, complete with all the strengths, needs, family types, racial & cultural identities and languages they bring to our programs.

The Etobicoke Children's Centre was formed in September 1997 as a result of the merger between two complimentary organizations, Stothers Centre for Children and Families & The Etobicoke Centre for Children and Families. The founders were concerned Etobicoke parents and local service clubs who were committed to helping children and their families address children's mental health needs.The Etobicoke Children's Centre is a non-profit, charitable voluntary organization. We are fully accredited by Children's Mental Health Ontario (CMHO – www.kidsmentalhealth.ca). The Centre receives funding from the Province of Ontario (Ministry of Child and Youth Services and Ministry of Community and Social Services), The City of Toronto and through private donations.
