Educating children since 1997. For convenience, we have two locations in Burnaby, one coming soon to Coquitlam. We provide care for children ages 30 months to 5 years, as well as before and after school care servicing Nelson Elementary School. We provide an integrated curriculum based on Dr. Maria Montessori’s proven philosophy and principles. Each child is guided by certified professionals in a self-directed learning environment that fosters independence, responsibility, respect for others, and a love of learning. Additionally we include; healthy snacks, weekly French classes where the children are exposed to basic French language, weekly Music classes, as well as weekly yoga classes carried out by a certified yoga instructor. Our Mission To guide each student on their path of development by providing a carefully prepared environment that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit of each individual. Our MCC Thrift Shop has been in south Vancouver for nearly 35 years. We are currently at our fourth location in the area at the corner of Fraser and 43rd Avenue. We've enjoyed being here since 1991. Our store is governed by a committee of 8 members who are also committed volunteers. As part of the British Columbia branch of MCC, this committee is also accountable to our thrift shop coordinator who is based at the MCC BC head office in Abbotsford, BC. We usually have three or four full time or part-time paid staff at our store to manage the day to day operations and help pick up and deliver furniture with our small cube van. Other than these few paid employees, the store is entirely staffed by a diverse body of volunteers which represents many different ages, races and religions. Dr Michael Elterman received his PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1980 from Queen's University. He did a Fellowship at the University of Utah Medical Centre and has been Senior Psychologist at Vancouver Health Department and Director of Psychology at Vancouver General Hospital. He has been doing family law assessments for 35 years which is now his primary area of practice. He was Consultant to the Attorney General of BC on family law cases for 20 years. He also does court assessments in some criminal matters and is a Parenting Coordinator and has a number of clients he sees for psychotherapy. He was awarded the status of Fellow by the American College of Forensic Psychology. Dr Elterman is married and has 3 adult sons.
