Estonian Church Foundation is a non-profit organization that owns the church and community centre housing many of the Estonian community's functions. The building is old and in constant need of repair and finding willing volunteer to fix an electrical or plumbing problem is very difficult in an aging community. Back in 2009 funds had been donated to renovate the washrooms which involved removing old toilets and existing stalls, ripping out the old floor and putting in new floorboards with a new vinyl surface, installing new toilets, seals and fixtures, painting the old wooden stalls, doors and walls.
We believe God's purpose for each of us is to enjoy life as a wonderful gift filled with opportunities to experience love, joy, peace, contentment, purpose, and hope. That even in the midst of disappointment, setbacks, uncertainty, pain, and the normal struggles of 21st century living, God can enable us to find and enjoy real deep happiness. This we believe, and have come to experience, is found in a personal relationship with God through the Christ of Christmas and Easter. Our church is a place where you will find help in beginning and growing in that all important relationship with God.
Relying on the power of the Holy Spirit, we proclaim the love and good news of Jesus Christ through our words and actions. As a reformed church, we rely on the truth and inspiration of Scriptures for God's guidance into the future - a future that we approach with wonder and anticipation, knowing God is with us. As worshiping communities joyfully celebrating the sacraments, we are supported, strengthened and equipped to share the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.
As a community of the people of God, we are called to minister to all people in our world, knowing that the world is often an unloving, alienated and broken place. Christ calls us to reconciliation and wholeness. We are challenged by the Gospel to be agents of healing within our society.
Welcome to St. Matthias and St. Luke Anglican Church! We are a small, growing community of diverse people committed to following Christ, bringing the good news of God's love to our neighbourhood, and working together to build a welcoming and open-hearted church. 2011 marked a new beginning for us and we invite you to play a part in creating something wonderful here for the Oakridge community. We gather every Sunday morning at 10:30, and visitors are always welcome! Our worship is currently in English and we are also considering adding Mandarin and Cantonese in the future. Wherever you are on your own spiritual journey, we invite you to come and explore with us as we seek God together in our worship and in our service in God's world. Please feel free to contact us by phone or email if you have any questions. St. Matthias and St. Luke is part of the Diocese of New Westminster, the Anglican Church of Canada, and the worldwide Anglican Communion.
