Led by our talented team of teachers, the parent participation model is one that has fostered as sense of community among our families year after year, and long after the children have moved on to elementary school. Our large classroom facilities are located in the lower level of the Dunbar Community Centre. This spacious, bright, and inspiring space invites children to explore a variety of activities in an open-concept environment.

At Strongsteps Children's Learning Centre, our goal is to offer a program that meets the intellectual, moral, social, emotional, and physical needs of each child. Our curriculum planning involves the integration of long-term and short-term decisions with daily emergent responses to children’s interests and ideas. Teachers facilitate a balanced approach to incorporate children’s voices, ideas, and interests with a teacher-led focus for learning. Creating opportunities for children to take an active role in decision-making is important, as the greater degree of choice that children have in their learning, the greater the degree of involvement in their learning.

We are a full service daycare and early learning centre meeting the needs of 75 children, ages 6 mos to 12 years. We offer programs for all of these age groups in one building. Our building is brand new, designed specifically for children with floor to ceiling windows to capture the natural light, air conditioning for comfort during the summer and brightly coloured walls to stimulate the imagination. Our experienced staff utilize emergent curriculum to engage children. Emergent curriculum encourages children to contribute their ideas with educators using these ideas as a framework for curriculum development. Finally, parents appreciate our online webcam monitoring that allows parents to view their children from work or at home.

We have been in operation since 1992, providing a variety of childcare options to meet the diverse needs of the families in our area. We offer Preschool, Before and After school care and a 3-5 Group Care program for children ages 2.5 to 12 attending Blakeburn, Cedar Drive, and Birchland Elementary Schools and Minnikhada Middle School. All programs strive to provide a warm, caring and safe atmosphere for children to grow and develop.
