There is surprisingly little that's vintage left in the old town of Ladner. This, though, is one of three area garages -- along with West Van's Dundarave and Steveston's Marine -- that looks like a location on the old trucker movie They Drive By Night. It opened in 1937, burned down in 1946 and reopened the same year.(The Province paper, Sunday,November 5, 2006). To this day the building is still being utilized for its original purpose. From 1945 - 2002 (57 years) the garage was owned and operated by a local family the Oeuvrays. Ladner Motors provided complete automotive and tractor repairs and service along with being the Chevron dealer for many years. The Oeuvrays maintained a high standard of workmanship and became very respected and trusted in the community. Throughout their years of service the shop became a familiar stop for many customers to just drop by for a visit and a little chat. In 2002 another local family The Cliffords took over the operation of the business. Their goal was to maintain the reputation that Ladner Motors was known for. In 2003 the shop became a CAA approved facility. The Cliffords know the importance of keeping abreast with todays technology - having the latest in diagnostic equipment and the experience of certified mechanics to do the job right.

Canada Engines is, and always will be a family business, with family values. Ron Shumey started Canada Engines back in 1985 on a solid foundation of honesty, integrity, and good old hard work. With his professional engine remanufacturing background dating back to the late 60's, Ron knew what it would take to make this new business a success. Starting out with a single tool chest, a valve grinder and an old hot tank was a humble beginning, but everything grew from there. At first we may not have had the equipment you might think necessary to start an engine rebuilding shop, but what we did have was faith and vision. In January of 1992 we began setting up shop at our new current location in Surrey. Starting out with 10,000 sq. ft. left us plenty of room to grow so we thought, but a few years later we expanded into our building's twin across the parking lot. Our 20,000 sq. feet became too small a few years later when we moved the crankshaft grinding department to a new location just a mile away. This left us the room we needed to expand our installation facility to 13 bays with 12 hoists. Canada Engines Installations is the largest automotive engine installation facility in Canada. Our 6 full time professional installation technicians specialize in replacing engines, major engine repairs, tune ups and vehicle maintenance. Most late model vehicles require special tools for a successful job, but one thing you can't buy at the tool store is years of experience, and the knowledge that comes with it.
