Downtown Miramichi Business Network became the new name of the Newcastle Business Association, which had been formed in 1983 to ensure that the former Town of Newcastle had a strong, vital and livable business district that all citizens could be proud of. However, in 2006 after the completion of a Downtown Revitalization Strategy focused on Miramichi's two downtowns the name DowntownS Miramichi - Newcastle Business District was adopted. The organization is controlled by a Board of Directors, elected by the business community, and is administered by a full time General Manager.
