The negotiations on the Statutory Easement for the Evans-Ashwell Connection road are now complete. The easement was the Department of Indian Affairs last land management obligation before Squiala can begin managing its own lands and resources according to the Land Code. The Individual Agreement that transfers the land management authority from the Government of Canada to Squiala First Nation is waiting for a signature from the Minister. Once the minister signs the the agreement Squiala can begin managing its own lands and resources. Construction of the Evans Interchange/Connector Project is expected to start in August 2008.
