Established in 1960, Fairhaven is a 256-bed Long-Term Care Home offering both residential and extended care. Fairhaven is jointly owned by the municipalities of the City and County of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Residents and staff moved into the brand-new facility on January 27th, 2003.For over 50 years, Fairhaven has established itself as a viable and innovative organization that serves the people of the Peterborough region. First and foremost it is a Long-Term Care Home, owned and governed by the community and operated without reliance on operating funds from the municipality. As the needs of the community have changed, Fairhaven has responded by expanding its scope and reaching out to serve the continuum of needs in the long-term care field to individuals of all ages.
I have been a Registered Nurse for over 35 years. I have worked in various settings including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Paediatrics to surgical care, then to the community as a visiting nurse. I wrote care plans for palliative patients and their families. I implemented these care plans and followed up with other caregivers in the home. I worked as a Care Coordinator as well. I have also worked in Long Term Care providing palliative care their also.
As a certified Willow End of Life Educator, I have access to materials to help create supreme advanced care documents. These tools can be used at any age. Legacy letters and other documents can be created leaving a lifetime of information to loved ones and beautiful words that will never be forgotten.
In my own life I have experienced heart wrenching loss forcing me to walk the path to experience death and dying and from that i wish to honour my son Stephen's death by helping individuals and families on their own journeys
