Cowichan Women Against Violence Society works from a feminist perspective to provide a supportive environment for victims and children who have been affected by abuse. We support diversity, change, choice and growth through counselling, advocacy, emergency shelter, community development and education The purposes of the Society are: 1. To provide emotional support and information for victims who have been sexually assaulted or physically/emotionally battered. 2. To provide temporary emergency shelter for women, who have been physically/emotionally battered or sexually assaulted, and their children. 3. To ac as a liaison between the sexually assaulted and/or battered victim, community services and the legal and medical system. 4. To be an educational force for progressive changes in attitudes, laws, institutional procedures dealing with violence against victims and children. 5. To work for the prevention of sexual assault, battering, and child sexual abuse/incest.

Sandra Wieland, Ph.D., R.Psych. is a registered psychologist in Sidney, British Columbia who works with both children and adults who have experienced childhood trauma. Early trauma can create considerable fright which leads to a high sense of danger, inability to trust or be close to people, cutting off emotions and thoughts, and acting in ways that one does not wish to. Dr. Sandra Wieland uses play therapy and EMDR with traumatized children and talk therapy and EMDR with traumatized adults. Funding can often be obtained through Crime Victim Services or other resources. Sandra Wieland has taught internationally and written numerous articles and books on working with traumatized children.
