Established in 1991, the Nanaimo Community Archives is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving the regio's archival heritage. We acquire, preserve and provide public access to the historical records of Nanaimo. Our holdings include thousands of one-of-a-kind maps, architectural drawings and photographs. The NCA is the official repository of the archival records of the City of Nanaimo, Nanaimo District Museum and the Nanaimo Historical Society. Our holdings also include service club, community organization, fraternal club, family and a wide range of other community records. These records document ordinary and extraordinary people and events that allow us to establish a sense of community, of family, and of particular times and places. She was that girl, at 10 years old, sketching and designing whole wardrobes for her friends Barbie collections (as well as cutting off all of their hair into modern short dos.) She was that girl, at 16 years old, who after repeated store visits to no avail, designed, sourced fabrics and a found a local seamstress to create a truly stunning and unique one of a kind dress for her own prom.

Pelling Industries Ltd. started in the Comox Valley. Shawn Pelling the Principal (born and raised in the Valley) started working in the trades in the Valley in 1994. He started a siding company with his brother but moved to Victoria to pursue the leaky condo market. This gave him experience in all trades from finishing to drywall, masonry to concrete, and took him to Vancouver and eventually to Whistler. In 2002 Pelling Industries Ltd. was formed and Pelling began serving the water ingress problems of Whistler as well as doing high end renovations and building as a General Contracting firm. Shawn designed the web page that tracks all costs in real time, giving clients access to all aspects of the project.
