Please ask for permission before use.A Little HistoryThe early focus of the Festival was to decorate just the downtown core but this was soon changed to include Coronation Mall and then to expand to the blocks surrounding the downtown area. The past couple of years has seen a great physical change to Ladysmith's downtown, which has created many new opportunities for the Festival of Lights volunteers to create and add new lights and decorations.Ladysmith & District Credit Union fireworksWe acknowledge the financial assistance of the Province of British Columbia but probably the biggest 'sponsors', though, are the residents of Ladysmith. Over the years the ever increasing core of volunteers has gone the longest way in helping to make Ladysmith famous for its annual Light Up and its community spirit and to also make people aware of what they had in their own downtown and to shop local.For all of this assistance, the Festival of Lights is extremely grateful
For six weeks from March to May, over five thousand Victoria-area performers and students of music, dance and dramatic arts are on stages throughout the city receiving adjudications from renowned experts in the arts. Performances in Brass, Classical Guitar, Choral, Composition, Dance (School and Studio), Ethnic Performance, Fiddle, Musical Theatre, Piano, School Bands, School Orchestras, Speech and Dramatic Arts, Strings, Voice and Woodwinds by talented youngsters and adults take place daily throughout Festival. Our Honours concerts showcase the amazing talent. Dozens of significant awards and trophies are presented including the Rose Bowl (Classical Voice), the City of Victoria Medallion Tray (Piano), and the Roberto and Mary Wood Scholarship, the largest of its type in Canada
The Harrison Festival Society presents the Harrison Festival of the Arts, an internationally acclaimed event entering its 35th year each July and a Season of Performing Arts including ten to twelve concerts between September and May each year.
