Al Scott Lock & Safe was started in Vancouver from the ground up in 1973. The first service truck was a 1963 GMC pickup truck with a homemade camper for a shop on the back of the truck. The business was started by Allan and his wife Eileen Scott. Al saw the need for a locksmith company to provide professional locksmith service that would master key the large commercial buildings and keep an accurate file of the codes for the convenience of the building management people and also provide better building security. Over the next 13 years the Scott's with the help of many people were able to build a company with 6 mobile units and 2 stores. By 1991 Al and Eileen decided that it was time to retire but were very concerned about what would happen to the customers that had come to rely on the master key systems that they had provided and also about the future of their loyal employees.
Our story starts with our founder Jimmy Liu. His respect for nature's herbal remedies encouraged him to launch his first small retail store in the heart of Richmond British Columbia. Jimmy's understanding of medicinal ingredients and his devotion to enriching health and wellness began as a child. His family operated a local pharmacy in the city of Taichung, Taiwan.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They will answer your questions and show you the product if you ask them. Large choice of products with good price ranges. They are my choice for a hardware store, an I recommend them! Read more
This store opened recently as part of the revitalization of the area south of the Cambie Bridge. This is an interesting concept for the store that brought us the sprawling big box stores of the 'burbs that we have come to know and love. This store is on 1.5 levels on a smaller footprint and offers almost anything you can imagine for the do-it-yourself-er in an urban setting. In fact its the "almost" in the previous statement that costs this store a 5. It is true that they offer almost anything but if you want to do any larger projects involving copious amounts of lumber, landscaping stone, plants, soils and other landscaping materials you will still need to visit one of the big stores. All that aside, if you are looking for anything else this is a great store to hit, particularly given their location. My child and I particularly enjoy the monthly (every second Saturday) children's workshops where the kids get to build a fun, wood-based project. Afterward there are a myriad of options to pursue such as a walk at the sea-wall around False Creek or a hot chocolate at Starbucks. Check it out next time you're in the area and you will leave impressed!Read more
