George Linger and his family have been in the building supply industry since 1965. After selling their business in Alberta, they moved to Vancouver Island in the mid 1990’s. They purchased The Finishing Store in Victoria in 1996 and in Nanaimo in 1999. They felt that is was a retail store that offered a unique product assortment and presented a good opportunity to expand and grow the business. In 1997, they added milling facilities that helped offer customized products specific to the market on Vancouver Island.

With stores located at Arbutus Street, South Vancouver and Ladner, our materials and service have being supplying Vancouver's contractors and homeowners for over 50 years. The warehouse on Shaughnessy St takes care of the deliveries and keeps the Arbutus store fully stocked for business. We carry products from lumber, plywood and screws to power tools and safety equipment. Our story began in 1972, when Sid Shivji bought the business from its former owner. Several years after taking over the business, an unfortunate fire brought the building down. Sid rebuilt the store and reopened in 1975. The company has grown steadily with the support of the neighbourhood to what it is today, a great option for Vancouver's and Ladner's contractors and home owners. Since opening the first Terminal Forest Products sawmill in the early 1960's, there have been many changes in the forestry industry. Technology, environmental concerns, political and buying trends have influenced the way this and other forest companies now do business. In light of all these changes, we remain steadfastly committed to our founding belief to grow our business through strong relationships with our customers and communities. Providing our customers with the highest quality products available is a key focus at Terminal.
On a tour of the mill today with a little group from Kerrisdale Seniors Centre I learned how a log becomes saleable lumber for commercial customers to refine further for their purposes. It was a privilege to see the expertise of all the staff - something like choreography. Each person knew what he was doing and why before passing the wood to the next part of the operation. Their knowledge, skill, and efficiency (strength and stamina)are admirable (astounding to me).
