The Olde Yorke Fish & Chips, a Leaside neighbourhood staple was established and opened on our daughters' 21st birthdays, March 16th 1997. My wife and I have been in the fish & chip business in England since 1969, where we had three take-out shops. In 1980 we opened 'The Brittania' in Trenton and then came to Toronto in 1992. We have always strived to provide the best in fish & chips and service in a pub like atmosphere, minus the TVs and other distractions found in almost every pub today.
If there's any truth in advertising, then this place's name says it all. British Style features hand-cut fish and chips. Fish include pickerel, cod, halibut and haddock served with freshly cut chips. Food is affordable, in the the $6-$9 range. The health conscious will be happy to hear that owner/chef Ali Meghji has cut back on the grease (to the disappointment of Rochesterians?) in what is otherwise authentic British cooking. The also feature regular Canadian pub foods like onion rings, salads and fried clams, shrimp and scallops.

This is the best fish and chips that I've ever tried in Toronto. (I went there on the advice of a friend and would have never have gone here without that recommendation). It's a very unassuming place, with fairly drab surroundings. But the fish is top notch, with large portions at a good price. I don't really know what else to say besides that. It's fish and chips and it's GOOD. (If it weren't for the location, I'd come back more often.) Read more
