Abbotsford Wine (formerly 'Abbotsford Wine and Brew') was started in 1995 by Rae Huber (originally from Alberta) and Mel Huber. With help from Rae's father Norm (current owner), they built what would soon be known as Abbotsford's #1 winemaking facility. However, Rae had a love for horses that couldn't long be ignored, as she relocated to Saskatchewan to raise her beloved animals. This change of plans sent the business into the hands of Norm's sons, Darren and Marlowe. Not exactly strangers to winemaking, the two brothers were at the time, running a U-Brew in Coquitlam, B.C. After several years of building upon the store's foundation, Marlowe and Darren eventually left as well. They would soon find themselves in Laguna Beach, California. Can you guess what they ended up doing? Visit www.lagunacanyonwinery.com and see for yourself! So, with Rae, Darren and Marlowe all dropping in and eventually out of Abbotsford Wine, Norm was left only to come out of retirement and run the show himself.Fast forward to today. Norm Huber is still the owner of Abbotsford Wine, the business that has been in his family for over a decade, and winner of The Abbotsford Times' Best Winemaking for the last 10 years! We don't plan on stopping anytime soon either!

The company began with a young and energetic entrepreneur, Bill Tuytel. Bill first spent 7 years for SDS Drilling in Alberta as well as in BC, learning everything he could about soils and the industry before starting up his own drilling business. His experience included the pre- drilling for the Alex Fraser Bridge, Expo 86 construction like Science World and Canada Place and as well the associated sky train projects at that time. He also did a major part of the drilling in the mountainous terrain for the then new Coquihalla Highway project. When at just 26 years of age he felt he wanted to start on his own and thought of the name Downrite Drilling which is still going strong today. It took two years to initiate the business into full production. Bill purchased a 1980 Bombardier and built his first Auger rig on that carrier. He began drilling for clients across the lower mainland and soon gained a reputation for his knowledge, dependability, and dedicated crew members.
