The Children of the Earth High School program believes in the dignity, value, and worth of each individual. We recognize that students have attitudes, desires, and abilities that differ widely and that changing times present new challenges and demands. Hence, we believe that the basic purpose of education is to provide a pathway through which each individual may realize self-respect, self-fulfillment, and his/her relevance in a dynamic society. We believe in quality education that is culturally-based, flexible, and centred on the needs of the students. The Winnipeg School Division, Children of the Earth High School staff, students, parents, and community collaborate and consult as a team. We are committed to providing culturally-based quality education in an environment that will afford students the opportunity to develop the necessary skills, attitudes, and social behaviours that will help them meet the challenges of life.

Six citizens, concerned about community re-entry needs of the recovering alcoholic, formed Alcohol Recovery Inc (A.R.I.) in 1977. Until that time, a program did not exist in the Winnipeg community tailored to meet the long-term implications of addiction recovery.Consequently, the Board of Directors of the newly formed A.R.I. designed a 'living program' for recovering alcoholics that would plug the holes in existing projects, and give suffering individuals a better chance of successful long-term recovery. Funding and support was sought from institutions and individuals to get the A.R.I. homes under way.Thanks to the diligence of the initial Board, the necessary financial resources were obtained and A.R.I. began operations in slightly over a year. In November 1978, A.R.I. officially opened a men's residence, and in May 1980, a women's residence was added.In the late 1990s, Ester House, a recovery home specifically for women but independent from A.R.I., was established in Winnipeg.

Chesed Shel Emes was established in 1930 as a non-profit organization with a mandate to prepare members of the Jewish community for burial according to Orthodox tradition.Each person is treated with the same consideration and respect. No one is refused service due to financial hardship.Chesed Shel Emes is an independent, community based organization. Our Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from each of Winnipeg's synagogues and cemeteries, and interested members from the community at large.Men and women are carefully chosen and trained as volunteer members of the Chevra Kadisha (Holy Society). Their purpose is to dutifully and lovingly prepare the dead for burial, an act of true loving kindness.

RED RIVER HERITAGE FAIR Congratulations to the Grade 6 students who represented our school so well at the Red River Heritage Fair at the University of Winnipeg on May 1st. The students had a wonderful time observing the hundreds of amazing projects by grade 4 to 11 students from across Manitob,a participating in several hands-on workshops, interacting with the judges and answering their questions, and meeting students from across the province.Each year the grade 6 students participate in various fun and educational workshops. This year's workshops included: soap stone carving; making aboriginal leather necklaces called spirit pouches; an amazing scavenger hunt; and an interesting talk on The Untold Stories of Winnipeg. As well there was aboriginal drumming during the lunch hour and an Open House and Awards Ceremony in the evening. It was an action-packed day, one that will remain fondly in our memories! All of our students received medals for their wonderful projects.In addition, some of our students were fortunate to receive SPECIALTY AWARDS, as follows: CANADA'S HISTORY AWARD (Awarded to the Top 3 Projects in the entire fair!)

We are ready to improve the Lord's property at Holy Trinity Cathedral - at our AGM this year we had approved a Capital expenditure project: the repaving of our parking lot, something that regular users of the parking lot all can agree. We need to do this so that we can provide a safer environment for all that visit here. We need to raise approximately $100,000 for this project.
