In November 2005, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) announced plans to open a Community Health Centre (CHC) and satellite office in Chatham and Wallaceburg respectively. Chatham-Kent had been designated as severely under-serviced for family physicians for many years. It was later determined that a workstation would also be located on Walpole Island and possibly at another location in Chatham-Kent.The Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres Steering Committee initiated a 'community engagement' process in February 2008 to ensure involvement of community members in the identification of priority populations that need CHC services, involve the community in decision-making, and build partnerships for the CHC. The Community Engagement Report included a consultation process with participation by 75 organizations from a variety of sectors, nine open community consultation sessions throughout the municipality, and an extensive review of the census, health status and service utilization data provided by the Erie St.

There was a marvelous walking and biking trail, known as the Deeside Way , leading out of town which followed an old railroad grade. Perfect . . . no big hills! The Deeside Way leading out of Ballater looked promising. There were other bikers and a number of ramblers. The trail crossed several burns (the Scottish term for creek). The sky was blue and the light was clear and strong. The vegetation was a mix of winter hibernation and early budding. Occasionally the trees that lined the path would open up to a view of the bucolic Scottish Highlands countryside. Farmers had been out preparing their fields. Early Spring planting. There was still snow on the higher mountains . . . it was a crisp day . . . perfect for biking. In a few places along the Deeside Way the trees were beginning to bud and blossom. We rested under this shadowed tree on the green hill. An old chapel ruin provided some photographic interest. I assume the area farmers still bury their dead in this cemetery. We went as far as this grove, about three miles.

The Centre was founded in 2000 by Latchman Narain, Ph.D (see below) in an effort to address a dire need in the Markham-Scarborough community, considering that there are few counselling resources available to deal with the many individual and family problems stemming from the stress of everyday life. Since its inception, the Centre has experienced rapid growth and has extended its services to North York, in the western side of Toronto. Most clients have reported that they have benefited immensely from the Centre's counselling services which integrates both eastern and western treatment approaches (see below) .
