Skinner Bros Contracting Ltd has deep roots in Fort Nelson. It's a second generation company that was started as a general contracting company by Skinner parents, Dennis and Patricia. It has since grown into one of the largest transport companies in Northern British Columbia. Skinner brothers, Glenn and Dean, run the family company and have branched out into many different arenas, recognizing the needs of the local oil and gas industry and adding new equipment to the business. In 1999 things were progressing at a rapid pace, so the decision was made to purchase Hanvold Expediting; a thirty year old, well known company which was the largest in this sector. Today their fleet - which started out with just one hotshot truck in 1997 - has expanded to include picker trucks, grocery trucks, tractors and trailers. They follow in the footsteps of their parent's Dennis and Patricia, who emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1967 - showing great initiative and willingness to adapt to the changing business climate. The family moved from Toronto to Fort Nelson in 1979 and D. Skinner Enterprises was established as a general contracting company which included D.L Plumbing and Heating. Both Glenn and Dean worked with the company from the start - servicing and maintaining camps in the oil patch - familiarizing themselves with the oil and gas industries. Today Skinner Bros. Continues to be an industry leader, striving to pursue new ventures, alliances and industry leading methods of transportation with an open door attitude to help the industry.
