To make matters worse, making a change typically means giving something up, and when we give something up, we replace it with something new, usually the unknown. Confronting the unknown often produces feelings of anxiety and uncertainty. Many people resist change, despite the desire to change, because they feel very uncomfortable when they cannot predict their own feelings, responses, or what might happen in the future because of this change. Fear of the unknown can then become another obstacle to change. The process is difficult, and change is never easy, or we would be doing it already!
