The idea of ??founding a historical society in Montmagny is born in 1996 , during the holidays commemorating the 350th anniversary of the seigneury of Rivière -du -Sud. During these festivities , holding several events to historical fact make the population aware of the need for such a body in the middle. Moreover, by making its final assessment , the organizing committee decided to pay the extra revenue to the City of Montmagny and recommends that this amount be used to set up a history center . The process is then initiated.In February 2000 , the City of Montmagny form a provisional committee of twelve, to whom she gives the mandate to draft the bylaws of the future history of Montmagny Company. A charter was issued on 20 March 2000 and the founding meeting held on 10 May . New members will hold a general meeting on 10 June, chaired by Maurice Rousseau. A board of nine members, was then appointed to structure the new organization and develop a documentation center which later took the name of Montmagny History Centre
