La Forchetta equals quality Italian fare, right in the heart of Little Italy. The renowned 600+ wine list is a perfect complement to such tasty items as Goat Cheese stuffed Portabellos, homemade Wild Mushroom Gnocchi and Australian rack of lamb. The Tuscan Style Chicken is a fan favourite.
Cafe Diplomatico was first opened in 1968 by Rocco Mastrangelo Sr., shortly thereafter younger brother Paul came on board. The brothers envisioned having a typical Italian bar where Italian nationals could gather in the morning over coffee. At a time in Toronto when outdoor dining was almost unheard of, the sunny patio quickly caught on and now almost 4 decades later what started out as an innovation in the neighborhood has now set the standard. Over the years the popularity of the Diplomatico has caused the bar to expand into a full restaurant eventually taking over the store next door as well. The dip (as it is affectionately referred to by it's many regulars) has had staying power due to it's versatile & reasonably priced menu paired with it's comfortable & unpretentious atmosphere. Approaching 5 decades the restaurant is still owned by the Mastrangelo family, younger brother Paul now runs it with Rocco Mastrangelo Jr.

On April 8, 2011 we opened Trattoria Taverniti. Each day we are in the kitchen making our pomodoro sauce, meatballs, gnocchi, lasagna, chicken eggplant parmigiana, tiramisu, and other delicious foods - all from scratch.

This was a sigularly phenomenal experience. All of our food was lick-your-plate excellent. I love their investment in local food producers. Their housemade breads, butters, pastas totally show it. We also were treated to a random complimentary amuse-bouche of a pork terrine with caramelized onions on crostini. Vanilla creme brulee was the single best creme brulee I've ever had--PERFECTLY burnt sugar. Truly amazing prices for food this good. ONLY down thought? Cocktails are expensive and taste like actual booze. Given that I'm normally a fruity liqour drinker, they were hard drinks to swallow! A connaisseur might feel differently. I've been to Brownstone's several times now, and it's always a good experience. Friendly staff, and good food. Their brunch gets busy on Sundays, and deservedly so, but we were able to make a reservation the night before for our not-so-small party. The banana and Nutella pancakes were delicious, but topped with syrup, were a bit rich for my delicate stomach. Good fresh orange juice. The decor is lively and interesting, though sitting near the front door can be drafty in cool weather. Read more
Dundas West gets a funky wine bar with this sweet spot, where sharing is encouraged and the mealtime chumming around is as essential to the experience as the refreshments that accompany it. Daily house-made pasta, family-sized feasts (from a dedicated tasting menu) and a few simply prepared plates of antipasti are the order of the day at this cellar-based Little Italy restaurant, where Nonna's hand in the recipe-making is always close. Online reviewers give top marks for explosively flavourful food prepared with just a few ingredients. A lovely selection of wines is available by the glass, and the 50-seat patio's a treat in the summer.
