Annual ReportOur StoryThe Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre Inc. was established in 1984 to reclaim Aboriginal peoplés inherent role and responsibility as the caregivers for Aboriginal children and families in Winnipeg.We are a community mandated, Aboriginal directed and supported human service organization, delivering children in care and community based programs and services to Aboriginal families.Today, with over fifty (50) programs, eleven (11) sites, and 200+ staff and volunteers, Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre provides a valued local presence in key neighbourhoods where our community lives.All Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre programs and services are developed and operate within a philosophy that is embodied in the name of the center. The name Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata translates from Ojibway into the phrase 'we all work together to help one another'. Teen Challenge of Central Canada is a 12-month Christian discipleship program for men & woman struggling with a drug or alcohol addiction. The first Teen Challenge centre was founded by the late David Wilkerson, author of The Cross and the Switchblade, more than 50 years ago in Brooklyn NY. Today Teen Challenge operates more than 1000 programs in 80 countries around the globe, making it the largest and most successful faith-based drug treatment program in the world. Teen Challenge of Central Canada began in 1995 with a small 10-bed trailer in Hadashville, Manitoba. Today we run men's homes in Winnipeg, Denare Beach and Thunder Bay as well as our woman's home in Brandon. Our administration office/vehicle donation shop building is located on the outskirts of Winnipeg.

Pursuant to an agreement (the ?Subsidiary Agreement?) entered into on April 1, 1983 between Canad,a Manitoba and Awasis Agency of Northern Manitob,a the Agency was mandated the legal responsibility to provide child and family services to treaty and non-treaty members residing on 25 First Nations, however, with the decentralization of the Awasis Agency, the Agency provides child and family services to 12 First Nations communities.In 2000, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Province of Manitoba and Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak. The signing of the MOU meant that the Awasis Agency could expand its authority and provide services to off reserve members. These services commenced in 2005.
