The Vancouver Yacht Club was founded in 1903, based on the principles of tradition, volunteerism and a love of yachting. The first Clubhouse floated off the foot of Cardero Street in Coal Harbour. Docks were few, many boats had to anchor close by. The Club's First Annual Ball, in the old Hotel Vancouver, in 1921, came at a time of great optimism and a booming economy for Vancouver.
