Fresh from the bright lights of Miami (where the concept originated and another location is set to open in the fall), Cibo glows as spacious, upscale resto with lots to offer its King West clientele. This includes an extensive wine selection, plate-exceeding pizza pies and a warm nest of house-baked bread to start the adventure. Wine bar it might be, but Cibo is a spectacular choice for lovers of traditional Italian fare. Think polenta fries, a selection of salumeria and a stracciatella soup to set your engines racing. Many of the pastas are made on the premises here, and you can see them in their nascent glory at the pasta bar.
I went to a birthday party where we had a private menu. The food kept coming and it was all very flavourful. I would definitely go back next time I am in town. Read more
The kind of spot Marlon Brando or Frank Sinatra might show up for a 'za and a glass of malbec, this hip Annex trattoria is a standout for lots of reasons. Take, for example, the consistently yummy pies that tumble out of its state-of-the-art, imported-from-Italy pizza oven. Or the eight interesting by-the-glass wines (picked at the owner's discretion and subject to seasonal change-ups) that flow from the on-site Enomatic machine. Or the fresh pasta and tomato sauce prepared to exacting standards in the Mercurio kitchen. Or perhaps it's simply Bar Mercurio's comfy atmosphere — intimate enough to be date-worthy but quaint enough to host a solo experience with gusto — and the attentive, personalized service that flourishes within it.
This is a low lit, romantic, swish place. Not too big, and sometimes not too busy due to its location I think. But its a secret that a few people I have met RAVE about. Good italian food is not difficult, it's just about the ingredients and l'amore. These dishes I had were outstanding, and you know that feeling when it surprises you?! I can't wait to go back. Authentic Tuscan cuisine takes up happy residence in this somewhat tucked-away authentic downtown restaurant, where most everything's scratch made and the servers can spin rich food stories about every menu item's provenance. Tutti Matti is unique for being one of the few Canadian restaurants overseen by a female owner and head chef. The results are unpretentious Italian-themed delights, from pappardelle con stracotto to wild boar stew and a solid antipasti offering. All the yummy pasta is made on the spot — and noticeably so. Online reviewers urge diners close the Tutti Matti experience with a lemon tart.
We came here in a rush with tickets to a show. The servers were understanding and did everything in their power to accommodate. They were wonderful! The entrees were delicious - nice solid, fresh ingredients and very nice flavour profiles. The stewed lamb with the tagliatelle was perfectly cooked. The tortellone with the ricotta, pecorino and the radicchio was just perfect...satisfying and memorable. As for the dessert, we both agree with another review on this board that this quite possibly could be the best tiramisu in the city. Overall, great service, great entrees, and an epic dessert. Most of all, the wait staff were helpful in helping us meet our showtime. Great place that we would visit again in a heartbeat! Read more
