The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta helps to increase understanding, reduce stigma, provide education, hold special events, and assists with social connections. Personally, I went from hearing voices and experiencing hallucinations, being unhygienic and a high risk car driver to very minimal hallucinations and voices to being active in the community, caring for myself, taking public transit, and being a gentleman. Going to the peer support group is fun and the Partnership Education Program gives me the opportunity to tell my story to many groups of people in the community. DONATE A RIDE THE RED DEER ACTION GROUP SOCIETYThe Red Deer Action Group Society has been serving the citizens of Red Deer with their special transportation needs since 1977.When Red Deer City Transit took over the operation of the Action Bus Program in 2008, our Society refocused and initiated the Subsidy Ride Program The Program is designed to support low income individuals and families in Red Deer, by offering a transportation subsidy to attend social and educational events as well as trips for medical purposes. Travel may be within communities, between communities, and to major cities, provided they are in the province of Alberta. Now in its 4th year, the Program has reimbursed more than $40,000 to help reduce the cost of bus passes, taxi fares, and other modes of transportation.Caroline MercrediRiley, a client of the Red Deer Action Group Society's Subsidy Ride Program, boards a wheelchair equipped Greyhound bus for travel to Edmonton to visit her sister.
