Ashburn, Ontario is a community in the Town of Whitby, Durham Region, Ontario, Canada. Originally named Butler's Corners after settler Richard Butler in 1832, Ashburn was renamed after Ashbourne, Derbyshire in England when a post office was opened in 1852. The change in spelling was due to an error on the cancellation stamp used by the post office. The community was originally part of Whitby Township and became part of the Town of Whitby when the two municipalities amalgamated in 1968. Ashburn is located approximately 15 kilometres from the town centre of Whitby and is a predominantly rural area.
