The Feast of the Ascension of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated each year on the fortieth day after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha (Easter). Since the date of Pascha changes each year, the date of the Feast of the Ascension also changes. The Feast is always celebrated on a Thursday, however many Parishes move the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord Jesus to their Sunday liturgy to gather more of the community into the celebration. The Feast itself commemorates Christ making His last appearance to his disciples on earth, forty days after His Resurrection from the dead. Jesus appeared before the disciples, and after blessing them and encouragingthem not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit, His body ascended into heaven to His kingly throne at the right Hand of God the Father. With the Feast of the Ascension, Jesus sends his disciples out into the world to proclaim the Good News, and each of us is included in this mission.
contact Church of the Good ShepherdHere at Good Shepherd the pattern of worship has been set not by someone's idea the direction in which the church ought to be moving, but by the felt needs and wishes of the worshipping community. This community loves the traditional Book of Common Prayer and considers it to be an inalienable part of our Anglican birthright.Father Brown:Schuyler Brown was born in 1930 in New York City, where he attended the Buckley School. Since the very beginning of the Catholic Church a mystery of Divine Mercy has been contemplated by Christian believers. Christ's redemptive mission was nothing but an act of reconciliation of us people with God. The Christians believe that the Church was symbolically born at the moment when Jesus' side was pierced on the cross. Water and blood came out of his heart as a sign of our purification through the baptism and salvation through the precious sacrifice of life.
