The Kitchener Portuguese Club is a non-profit organization that has proudly served the Kitchener-Waterloo community since January 1969. We strive to cultivate, maintain and enrich our Portuguese heritage while trying to be a positive influence on our local community.Our board of directors organizes a large amount of varied events to bring people together at our Portuguese club facilities and to share time together as a community. Non-members are also invited and welcome to attend our events.
Our mission is to provide you with the most professional and comfortable facility for both recreational and competitive Table Tennis activities in Canada. MyTTC has been in the industry for more than 10 years with the two locations in Greater Toronto Area and produced numbers of excellent athletes. We not only teach our students the techniques on how to play the sport but we also guide them to enjoy the activity. All these experiences will become great assets in their life journey. With our third location in Kitchener-Waterloo area we are hoping to promote the sport with similar philosophy and become the pipeline for future Olympians from our lovely community.
The first recorded curling game in Canada took place in 1871 near Quebec City and 11 years later the game reached Kitchener-Waterloo. The Waterloo Curling Club organized in 1882 on a rink on Peppler Street, while the Kitchener Club started operations on Gaukle Street 1 year later. The K-W Granite Club was established by an amalgamation of the 2 Clubs in 1927.
The new Club purchased land for $2,500 and then purchased 3 adjacent properties for $6,800 at 69 Agnes St. in Kitchener. The original building consisting of 5 sheets of ice, a lounge, dining room, boardroom, locker room, furnace and ice equipment room was constructed at a cost of $32,000. For an additional cost of $30,000, artificial ice was installed for the 1928-29 season.
