THE POWERGLIDE HAS A 1.76 OR 1.82:1 LOW GEAR, AND A 1TO1 HIGH GEAR RATIO, THE RATIO CHANGE FROM LOW TO HIGH IS TOO GREAT FOR A LOT OF TODAY'S HIGH HORSEPOWER RACE CARS. THE LARGE DROP IN GEAR RATIO CAN SLOW YOU DOWN. THE VR4E IS A TRUE 3-SPEED AUTOMATIC, AND HAS A FIRST GEAR OF 1.77:1, A SECOND GEAR OF 1.31 TO1, AND THIRD GEAR OF 1:1, AND USES A LOCKUP TORQUE CONVERTER FOR A TRUE 1 TO 1 RATIO IN HIGH GEAR, ESSENTIALLY GIVING YOU 4 FORWARD SPEEDS.
