Tofino is located in a geographical region called Clayoquot Sound, comprising about 400,000 hectares of land and marine inlets, all draining into a central marine catchment area. The Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations have made Clayoquot Sound their home for several thousand years. The Tla-o-qui-aht Village of Opitsaht (across the water from Tofino on Meares Island) is thought to have been continuously inhabited for at least the past 5,000 years, according to carbon dating of a long-buried stash of discarded clamshells. The word Clayoquot comes from Tla-o-qui-aht. The earliest recorded European contact with Vancouver Island's First Nations residents occurred just north of Clayoquot Sound, between Estevan Point and the Escalante River. In 1774 Captain Juan Pérez was sent north by the viceroy of New Spain to reassert the long standing Spanish claim on the west coast of North America. Pérez reached the Queen Charlotte Islands in July, 1774. After some trading with the Haida people from aboard the Santiago, Pérez turned south and made contact with Hesquiaht people near what are now called Perez Rocks, approximately 40 km north of Tofino.

A little bit about me, I am the owner/operator of West Coast Weddings and Events and would like to introduce you to a couple of small communities here on the West Coast of Vancouver Island called Tofino and Ucluelet. I came to Tofino in 1987 from my native land Scotland. I immediately fell in love with the pristine beaches, majestic snow-capped mountains, and most of all, the friendliness of the locals, welcoming me into their community. I have since worn many hats in the hospitality/tourism business, but my heart lies with making others feel the magic here. My family and I have recently moved to live in Ucluelet and once again feel right at home with the Local Spirit. So give us a call! We can then set up a time for either a complimentary phone consultation or if you prefer to meet in person in Tofino or Ucluelet that can also be arranged, however there will be an Initial Information Fee for this service depending on time and location. At this time we would discuss your vision for your Wedding and what kind of budget you have to work with. We can then advise you on the best venue and services for your Special Day. After that we can proceed either by email, phone or in person to ensure that from now until the event takes place that a good working relationship has been established resulting in a successful, relaxing event.
