This elegant Yorkville original is home to true Italian cuisine made from the fresh ingredients. Executive Chef Felice Vacca liberally applies the lessons he learned in his upbringing on his grandparents' farm in Rome in this handsome restaurant, where the component parts of every tasty dish are purchased daily. Nothing is precooked at this neighbourhood darling, and all of the menu's options can be prepared according to personal preference. Whether in the warm, romance-inspiring dining room or on the pretty outdoor patio, service here is uniformly excellent. Vaticano also showcases a separate section with a full bar that seats up to 15 ppl featuring quality espresso, wines by the glass, beer on tap and four flat screen televisons to enjoy sporting events such as daily hockey or soccer games. Look for the charming photos of Felice and visiting celebrities that line the wall.

Even a snowstorm doesn't keep Toronto diners down, as we discovered last weekend at Jump in January. It was quieter than usual due to the weather, but our food was very good. We had an extremely affable waiter from England. The service started out a bit slow, with water poured and wine ordered but 25 minutes before some bread arrived. If we hadn't been so hungry beforehand we might not have noticed. Otherwise, the food was excellent. The Bacon-Wrapped Boneless Quail appetizer was absolutely delicious. The Wild & Tame Mushroom Soup was good, but as we told our server, it needed some cream to give it more depth and round out the taste. The Mahogany-Glazed Black Cod with Lentils was very good, and my partner had the delicious Beef Tenderloin. We'll come back again, but the pacing is a bit slow, so you can't be in a hurry if you're dining here. Read more
