Evans Book Store was built around the premise that the Canadian internet retail market is underserved and will grow meaningfully in the next 10 years. Canadian consumers perform 3% of their purchasing online, while the US does almost triple that amount at 8%, and UK consumers at 12%. Our interpretation is that the underwhelming Canadian performance is largely a consequence of limited online choice and conservative Canadian customers who are slower to adopt. With high home and mobile web connectivity, we believe Canadian behavior will approach that of the US/UK with the roll out of more innovative online concepts and offerings. Accordingly, we believe there is a real opportunity to better serve Canadian consumers through a direct-to-home delivery model from online retail environments. All of our enterprises, either core businesses or managed brands, operate within this industry.
Book City was founded and is still operated by a family that goes back four generations in the book business. Perhaps this is why we at Book City stick to a more traditional method of book selling. We jam our bookcases full of new and backlist titles, pack our tables high with bargains, and staff our stores with people who love reading as much as our customers do.
