Fort Vermilion Community Library was started in the 1930's by Jessie Slade McGrew as a traveling library. The goal was to bring reading material to the people of the north, as they were isolated some of the time and modern technology was not here then. After she no longer was involved, the library was moved into someone's basement.
We opened in our beautiful new building, the Verona Caltrell Memorial Center on April 27th, 2010 . Come in and surf the web, check your email, browse for books and enjoy a cup of coffee or a board game with friends in the sunny adult and youth lounge areas. Relax in a chair in the children's section and read to your toddler from a favorite story book. Wireless connection is also available if you prefer to bring your laptop. Check out the spacious room available to rent for meetings or programs. Inquire at the Library Circulation desk to reserve a date on the calendar for your group.
