Our goals are for children to take initiative as they make choices, play constructively and share their ideas with others. With enough varied materials, children sort, classify, count objects and figure out what is the same or different. They learn problem solving skills through constructive play and learn how to deal with conflicts.
Vaughan Co-operative Nursery School (known affectionately as 'Hippo School') was started in 1943 by Daisy Dotsch in her home. It was incorporated in 1951 as a non-profit, parent-teacher run nursery school. We are located near St. Clair and Christie in Toronto.Vaughan Co-op Nursery School was one of the early pioneers of the pre-school co-op movement in Toronto, and much of the philosophy that evolved here is now taught in early childhood education programs in colleges and universities.
Since 1976 TLC has focused on providing quality care and building close relationships with parents, children and staff. This is your home away from home.
At. St. Clement’s Early Learning School (SCELS), we believe that the early childhood years should be filled with opportunities for exploration, discovery and vital development. It is a time when a child must discover that learning is worthwhile, exciting, rewarding and fun. As well, this journey of discovery needs to take place in a warm, secure environment which supports children in their academic, social, emotional and physical growth.
Regardless of faith or cultural heritage, all families are welcome in the SCELS community of learners.
It is our objective at SCELS to identify the needs of the children in our programs and to plan for the successful fulfillment of those needs..Our continuing commitment to small class size enables children to make choices, to solve problems and to learn to think independently.
Manor Road Co-operative Nursery School was established by the Junior League in 1935 as an outdoor play group for children. In 1937, the operation of the school was taken over by the parents, and it became the first co-operative nursery school in Canada. It has continued as the oldest co-operative nursery school at the same location, in the Church of the Transfiguration, located at Manor Road and Redpath Avenue. The school has always been non-profit, self-supporting and non-denominational.

The primary purpose of Children's Garden Nursery School is to provide the community with a program that responds to not only the intellectual and physical needs, but also to the emotional and social needs of the developing child. Like flowers in a well-tended garden, our children will be given a special place, within a natural environment, where they will be allowed to grow and blossom at their own individual pace, and where they will be respected for their own unique contribution to the group.
