In 1953, five different Japanese companies merged to form Fuji Heavy Industries. They adopted a cluster of five stars as the logo of the line of vehicles they introduced. Fuji Heavy Industries chose the name Subaru for these vehicles. It´s the Japanese word for 'unite'. Subarus were first introduced into the United States in 1968. The first Subaru in North America was the 360, a mini-car with a 25hp engine. It went from 0-50 in 37 seconds. Not surprisingly, it wasn´t a huge bestseller. Canadians got their first exposure to the benefits of Subaru All-Wheel Drive in 1976. That was the year that Subaru Auto Canada Limited introduced a full range of Subaru vehicles into the country. In 1989 this company was taken over by Subaru Canada, a subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries. They began an expansion process that would eventually result in a network of over 100 dealers across the country. Docksteader Subaru opened in 1993.

We have some of the things that you might expect to find in a bike shop, and we do some of the things you expect a bike shop to do, although we do some things differently.If you have a bike, we can fix if it's broken, or spiff it up if you feel the need to upgrade or personalize it. We started out fixing them, and we'll never lose that. We consider it an embarrassment to be defeated by bits of metal, plastic and rubber, so we work hard to solve whatever problem you've got with your bike. Our specialty is to make the bicycle work as best as possible for its rider, in whatever it takes or what's affordable, whichever is a bigger concern. We don't know everything, but we can usually get the job done.We build some pretty strong bicycle wheels. We're pretty picky about what we use materially, so you will hear some stuff that's contrary to what's being recommended elsewhere.We can also make it fit you better, because a properly fitting bike is as important as a properly functioning bike. Most times things can get turned around in a day or two. Instant jobs are done only if you're nice to us, and by nice we mean you bring beer or baked goods or fine deli meats.
