Welcome to the Nanaimo Region John Howard Society! We are a non-profit charitable organization operating in the Nanaimo region. For over 50 years, we have provided community based services that promote responsible and accountable behaviours that lead to a safer community. We offer programs that are innovative and recognized for being best practice. The excellence of our Restorative Justice Program has been recognized both nationally and internationally. Our Forensic Housing and Outreach Program received the BC Mental Health and Addiction Services Award of Excellence. In May 2012, the Guthrie Therapeutic Community program was the recipient of the Premier's Award for Innovation.
Nursing in British Columbia has been a self-governing profession since 1918. Under provincial legislation (Health Professions Act), it is the duty of CRNBC to protect the public through regulation of registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and licensed graduate nurses. CRNBC's legal obligation is to protect the public through the regulation of registered nurses and nurse practitioners.
