We believe children are entitled to environments and opportunities that foster positive growth while being treated with dignity and respect. We recognize that play is a child's response to life and the medium through which he/she learns, and we therefore employ this principle in our day-to-day activities.
Cartwheels and Crayons Childcare offers multi-age childcare. We believe that each child is unique and has the right to learn in a safe and nurturing environment that develops the whole child socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. We believe that every child learns and develops differently and that play-based, hands-on activities help children develop many different skills by experimenting, exploring, manipulating and mastering. Our program operates around a daily schedule, a monthly theme and with a focus on physical literacy and multi-language learning.
At Starlight Child Care Centre we strongly believe that it is through play children learn best. We structured our daycare to provide a warm and safe environment with a wide range of materials which allow children to discover, create, explore, make choices and create to their own interests. Educating provides an opportunity for continuous learning and growth. In our competitive society it is important for children to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware and sensitive to their individual needs.
In the early 1950s, after World War II, many Europeans immigrated to Canada. They came by boat and train, often with large families, determined to establish themselves in this new land of 'unlimited' opportunities. Among these immigrants were people from The Netherlands. A good number of them were Christians from the Reformed tradition and they were eager to start a church in their new homeland as soon as possible.
At North Rd, we strive to provide a positive nurturing environment, where children can develop and enhance their intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical needs. Children choose where in the classroom they want to work and move about freely, choosing activities. Students use and manipulate materials that appeal to the senses, is purposeful in nature, and practice real life experiences. The materials are self-teaching and through practice and repetition of these materials and activities, the children develop concentration and master their work. Multiple age groups help the children to learn from each other while practicing to become leaders. Children become academically prepared by working with materials in the areas of Math, Language, Geography and Culture. Children learn to value and respect each other in a safe, child-friendly environment that prepares to help them learn not only about their, body, mind and spirit but also embracing family, community and environment.
We believe that play provides opportunities for young children to learn about their world. Our teachers act as facilitators of play, promoting positive interactions with peers, and offering gentle guidance when necessary. They strive to provide a safe, nurturing, accepting, environment which encourages spontaneous play and fosters self-esteem. Open-ended materials, creative spaces and unique experiences, are made available so that the children can learn and be curious about the world around them.
