VIS' learning environment promotes a sense of belonging, strives toward high expectations, respects each child's voice, and celebrates his/her achievements. Our program provides an alternative because it is balanced as such: It provides rigorous academics in small classes. It makes the Ontario Curriculum meaningful through the integration of personal, local and global issues. It offers a strong sports program and an innovative performing arts curriculum. It encompasses a balance of learner-centered approaches as well as teacher-directed lessons. It provides learners with opportunities to work independently as well as cooperatively. It enables students to develop strong skills in reading, writing and mathematics, and places importance on higher order skills such as critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, cooperation, time management and organization.
Our school offers students from grades 9-12 a wide range of programs, including the International Baccalaureate program and preparatory program, co-op, special education, technological studies and biotechnology. We have a broad range of courses in the arts, physical and health education, languages, maths and sciences, English, social sciences and history and geography. Our students graduate ready to enter university, college, apprenticeship programs or the workplace. Victoria Park is proud of its strong co-curricular program. We have over 50 clubs and a myriad of sport teams as well. Our students have many opportunities to develop their interests and their leadership abilities through clubs, our community partnerships and teams.

The present building was constructed in 1970 as an 'open concept' school with three 'houses': Anderson House, Maison Neuve and Clarke House. Each house has a common area surrounded by six individual classrooms. The three Kindergartens and music room are in separate classrooms. The school has approximately 550 students. Howard Public School is proud to be a dual-track school offering an English program from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 and an Early French Immersion program from Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6. Each program enhances the other. For more information about the TDSB Early Immersion program, click here Howard School also shares space with a daycare centre. The heart of the Whizkids learning system is our customized curriculum of more than twenty clearly defined skill levels and hundreds of short assignments spanning material from preschool all the way up to college. With each assignment, your child advances in small, manageable increments. Our main goal is to help children succeed in school by reaching their full potential. Adhering to this one basic principle, Whizkids has grown, but the focus has always remained the same.
