A LITTLE HISTORY OF JACKSON’S
Built in 1897 by A. MacDonald and Company, the present Jackson’s building started its life as a grocery store.
The building sold in 1899 for $11,500 to a consortium of local businessmen.
Over the past 115 plus years, the building has seen many tenants, including the Nelson Electric Tramway Society, Mayor J.A. MacDonald, and the Horswill Company Merchants, which you will still find painted on the front of the building.
After this, Mr. Kilfords Second Hand Store, a barber shop, Moma Rosa’s Restaurant, All Stars Café, Rickaby’s Restaurant, and since 2006, Jackson’s Hole & Grill have all called this building home. Throughout this time, the interior of the building has seen extensive renovations many times, however, the walls and floors remain thesame as they were in 1897.
Most famously, in 1986 the Hollywood hit- “Roxanne”, used this building for the fictitious Dixies Café, starring Darryl Hannah and Steve Martin.
A must visit when heading to picturesque Nelson. We waited for a spot on the patio, worth every minute of the wait. Food was Amazing and Service top notch. Can't wait to visit again!Read more
