Our winery is owned and operated by John and Maria Ferreira; both born in Portugal, immigrated to Canada with their families at a young age. We purchased this estate in 1979 as an orchard where we grew cherries, peaches and apples. Coming from a Portuguese heritage our passion of wine led us to convert our orchard into a vineyard after 20 years in production and packaging of fruit. The conversion of fruit to wine was done over a three-year period with the first merlot and chardonnay grapes being planted in 1999, additional varietals followed.
Our landscape and fabulous soil have allowed for us to have optimal growing conditions for grapes. The Black Sage Bench is well-known for producing excellent quality grapes due to desert climate temperatures and desert terrain. These conditions allow for us to produce fabulous wines. Today our vineyard is in full production featuring varietals including Merlot, Chardonnay, Syrah, Viognier, Melbec and most recent Zinfandel and Petit Verdot.
At Okanagan Underground Services Ltd we believe establishing a vineyard to a high standard and specification is crucial to its long-term success. Planning and attention to detail are vitally important. We believe this is the key to a successful vineyard and award winning wines in Oliver BC! We tailor our use of calculation, scheduling and organization as key tools to create the right balance of timing and nature. We plan each step specifically with your property (terroir) in mind. Taking into account the unique Okanagan soils and climate, using the most advanced viticulture practices while keeping in mind the effects of our work on the environment and nature. We understand the complexities of grape growing and we work simultaneously with the owners to incorporate their input into the creation of a visceral feel for the vines in order to develop a superlative vine. These techniques give us the ability to assist the grape growers to produce an optimum, distinct Okanagan product.
Oliver Readi-Mix is a major supplier of quality concrete, and aggregate. We also carry a full line of forms, accessories and gravel products for the South Okanagan area. Our company offers four dump trucks, one pup, six mixers trucks and a Hiab equipped truck to help with any future projects and heavy loads.
This concept of balance permeates everything we do, a balance between the head and the heart, between change and tradition. We find balance in the climate of this region, in the growing of our grapes, the aging of our wines in French oak barrels in our cellar and in the premium vintages we produce.
