IN 1972 SUKI TAKAGI MOVED TO VANCOUVER, purchased a small salon at the site of our current South Granville location and changed the future of Canadian hairdressing. Japanese by birth, Suki began her career in Beverly Hills, studied the craft in Europe, and in 1972 opened her first salon in Vancouver with no clients but a clear vision of what hairdressing could be. The salon was quite literally built one client at a time, through recommendations from clients or people stopping clients on the street to ask them where they had gone to get their hair cut. By focusing on the cut and creating exciting, easy to maintain hair styles Suki's quickly became 'the must see' salon.

While clients browse the finished pieces of jewellery in the showcases they can view the team of European trained craftspeople hard at work. Using some of the same hand tools that goldsmiths used for hundreds of years, the jewellery at Costen Catbalue Goldsmiths is predominantly handmade.
