Curling is a 500+ year old sport. The first specific references to the game appear in Scottish writings and Flemish paintings from the 1500's. In the early days, rocks came in different shapes and sizes and each curler brought their own to games.Curling became extremely popular in Scotland and it was the Scots who developed the modern game. They created the first rules and organized the sport's first governing body, the Grand Caledonian Curling Club, in the early 1800's.
The Hudson Bay Family & Support Centre (formerly known as the Hudson Bay & District Crisis Centre) is a nonprofit communitybased organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We provide ongoing crisis support and referrals for individuals and families experiencing distress in their lives. This could be anything from financial difficulties to sexual assault. No problem is too big or too small. Everyone needs someone in their time of need. Not only do we offer Personal and Family Violence programs, the Centre also run the Family Support Program for at riskfamilies, as well our agency is home to the Dare to Care Food Bank.We provide support and advocacy for all of our clients in a confidential environment. All of our services are free of charge. The YWCA Safety Siren, available in both English and French, offers users a unique utility siren along with Canadian health and safety information geared toward young women, including: short questions and answers about women?s health and wellness, particularly focused on dating and social interaction; tips and facts on safety and wellbeing; links to YWCAs across Canada as well as health and crisis resource centres; and SOS urgent email, phone and BBM functionality to a friend or family member when the user is in an unsafe situation.
