The Credit Bureau of Vancouver Limited was founded by Thomas Downie and established in Vancouver on October 21, 1921. Under the guidance of the Downie family, the company has continued to operate for the past 80 years. The head office remains located in Vancouver, with regional offices expanding across Canada. Before the dissolution of its partnership, the Collection Division was restricted to operating solely in the Greater Vancouver area. In 1997, CBV purchased the largest Commercial Collection Agency in BC, Creditel of Canada Limited. The purchase of Creditel increased the strength and dominance of CBV in the BC marketplace. CBV remains the largest collection agency for commercial business in BC and throughout Western Canada. With the continued development of its key client portfolios, CBV continues to increase its operation. In the fall of 2000, CBV expanded into Central Canada, locating its third branch in the downtown core of Toronto. This nation-wide coverage greatly improves our collection effectiveness.
