Japanese by birth, Suki began her career in Beverly Hills, studied the craft in Europe, and in 1972 opened her first salon in Vancouver with no clients but a clear vision of what hairdressing could be. The salon was quite literally built one client at a time, through recommendations from clients or people stopping clients on the street to ask them where they had gone to get their hair cut.
