There are 256 beds at FH organized into eight Resident Home Areas (RHA), each with its own care centre, dining room, activity room, lounges, spa, shower rooms and balconies. FH is a five-storey building serviced by two elevators and the main entrance is on level 2. There is no smoking room at FH.
One of the RHAs is designed to meet the special needs of cognitively impaired, but physically active residents.
Resident rooms at FH are designed to promote resident comfort and privacy. Rooms are furnished with an adjustable single bed (some are electric), night table, table lamp, overhead light fixtures, spacious wardrobe, high privacy sunshade over the window and sturdy upholstered chair. Each room has windows that can be opened for those who enjoy fresh air. In addition, each resident room has independent temperature controls and the Home is fully air conditioned. An interactive call bell system is provided in the resident’s living space as well as in the bathroom.

Fairhaven is jointly owned by the municipalities of the City and County of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Residents and staff moved into the brand-new facility on January 27th, 2003.For over 50 years, Fairhaven has established itself as a viable and innovative organization that serves the people of the Peterborough region. First and foremost it is a Long-Term Care Home, owned and governed by the community and operated without reliance on operating funds from the municipality.
