The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (Royal MTC) is a community-based, registered charitable not-for-profit arts organization. As a painter started twenty-three years ago, I took the Red River Painting and Decorating course, and started on my merry journey figuring I knew everything about my trade.My first job was at Community Painting and Decorating. The first project was exterior, and the boss told me to start painting the garage. At the end of the day my brush had as much paint on the handle as what was in the cutting pot. The brush had even more paint on it the next day, because it was apparent how useless I was. My boss was an expert in the trade, and an expert in giving a frantic verbal whip-lashing training technique. He was the best, and oh how I loved him!The technique was quickly improving, and I was becoming very neat, and clean at the projects. Some of the homes were so beautiful, and there was an extreme caution to be 100% professional in conduct, and in proper trained principles. The last thing I wanted was to buy a rug with my paint on it, worth more than my truck.

It has been a working art center for almost 40 years, and many local artists got their start here.Ever since the building at 587 Clifton Street was first built in 1917, this character building has housed an interesting variety of craftspeople. Its first tenants made covers for horse-drawn buggies, and after that, tops for Model T's. In the 1970s it became ''Symposium Studios'', and drawing, painting, sculpting, pottery and art history classes were taught there. In the 1980s, it became ''Prairie Clay Company''. Prairie Clay continued to offer pottery classes, but also supplied clay and rented studio space.In 1986, the pottery students of Prairie Clay Company decided to form a co-operative, and 587 Clifton Street became ''Clifton Studios''. Now, over 20 artists and craftspeople have individual studio spaces in this 4,044 square foot second floor warehouse.

WELCOME TOFRIENDS TOGETHER PRESCHOOL INC!Friends Together is a parent-run co-operative pre-school for 3, 4 and 5 year old children (children must be 3 years old by December 31).Friends Together began in 1976, and is a non-profit organization, funded through parents monthly fees and a yearly government grant. The classroom is housed at 830 North Drive in Fort Garry.Each Friends Together class has a high adult to child ratio. Classes of 16 children are supervised by a teacher, a teacher's aide and a parent helper.Friends Together staff hold the required education and many extras, as well as infant and child CPR and First Aid training.The school is licensed by the Manitoba Child Daycare Office.
