Lyon and Butler Insurance Brokers Ltd. began with George Lyon, a man with a vision for success. Mr. Lyon entered into the insurance business in 1898, originally as Lyon and Higginbottom. During his lifetime George Lyon not only had an extremely successful insurance career but was also a world-class golfer. In 1904, which was the last Olympics to include golf, Mr. Lyon won the gold medal. He continued on until 1932 winning eight Canadian Amateur championships, ten Canadian Senior titles and four U.S./Canadian Senior championships. In 1931 Fred M. Lyon, son of George Lyon, continued in his father's footsteps in insurance. He joined with Arthur H. Butler to form what is presently known as Lyon and Butler Insurance Ltd.
