In 1973, Kirmac Collision and Autobody was founded by Ian McIntosh. He always had the propensity to embrace new technology and pioneer new collision repair techniques. While working at a major truck manufacturing facility in Burnaby, Ian realized that a repair ' operations should flow as efficiently as the assembly line environment he was working in. At the time, collision repair shops were dingy, disorganized and only produced good enough quality to vehicle owners. That was all about to change with the opening of Kirmac.

Diesel Equipment Limited (DEL) was founded by Jack Martin, Vic Williams, Walter Sanderson and Bill Tucker. Their planning of the business started in Europe in their RCEME unit. Building the business began in November 1945, immediately upon their return from World War II. Originally a service station, DEL quickly engaged in the manufacturing of truck bodies. By the 1970s, DEL was the largest manufacturer of steel dump bodies in Canada, shipping rail car loads from Halifax to Calgary. The DEL 'U' body became ubiquitous!
