The Carmelites, a group of religious men, came to Niagara Falls in 1875. The first residence for the Carmelites was a simple farmhouse on the side of the escarpment across from the Shrine ofOur Lady of Peace, overlooking Niagara Falls. This building wasdemolished around 1935 to make way for Portage Road.
Heart Niagara (1977) has a distinguished record of guiding advances in cardiac health education and services in Niagara that are yielding improvement in access to primary and secondary prevention programs, training in bystander CPR and public access defibrillation.Much goodwill exists for Heart Niagara for its considerable contributions to the Niagara health care agenda. This respected not-for-profit charitable organization has mapped out its direction and strategy for the next phase of its evolution. This juncture has allowed Heart Niagara to consider whats possible, based on vision and values.
